So, you're going to Synergy 2. You'll spend three and a half days 'exploring connections' with the top artists, teachers, and pioneers in this medium, as well as connecting and re-connecting with old and new friends from around the world who'll be gathering together for this latest International Polymer Clay Association event (more than 100 names are already on the roster!). When it's all over, the only connection you may not have made is with some actual clay.
Hands up if you're looking for some 'hands on.'
In the days right after the conference, when all the sessions have been synergized, the panels have passed, the keynotes have been keenly noted, and the final auction item has been "SOLD!" we'll be sticking around for a couple of days to present two 'roll up your sleeves and actually make something' workshops:
The Cutting Edge Evolved - a 2-day master class showcasing Dan's system for creating decorative veneers with a Cutting Edge Peeler, including the how-to debut of some deeper 'layers' to complement his Synergy2 presentation, Evolving Mokume. Sunday, Feb.28 & Monday, Mar.1 • $200, plus $25 Materials Kit (The Cutting Edge Peeler Kit, plus extras specifically designed and assembled for this workshop)
A Day at the Beach - Tracy's 'geological survey' of original techniques for making realistically elegant polymer clay pebbles, from smooth simple stones, to beautifully unique wishing rocks, and all the grains, veins, forms, tones, and textures in between. Monday, Mar.1 • $100, plus $10 Materials Kit (specifically designed and assembled for this workshop)
Both workshops will include demos, show-and-tell samples and swatches, and plenty of 'hands-on' time to try the new techniques. The focus is on exploration and process, but there will also be an optional project presented for those wishing to apply what they learn to a finished piece.
These sessions will take place right at the Tremont Hotel (the same venue as Synergy 2), and the same special room rate is being made available to you to extend your stay for two extra nights (once you are confirmed in either workshop, it will be up to you to make your own additional hotel reservations).
Dan's Cutting Edge students will set up and work on both Sunday and Monday, and Tracy's Day at the Beach students will gather on Monday only, leaving Sunday free to enjoy morning coffee or brunch with departing delegates, check out the ACC show, catch up on your notes from all your seminars, explore Baltimore, or Just Do Nothing (and wouldn't that be nice, after all that 'connecting'?).
